French Lick Springs Hotel

The French Lick Springs Hotel is a resort that opened in 1845 and attracted visitors from around the world, who flocked there to partake of the healing properties of the "miracle waters" in the sulfur springs of French Lick and West Baden.  Its history is as rich as its ostentatious guests; the rich and famous visited there during the heyday of the resort, including Franklin D. Roosevelt (who announced his candidacy for president at the 1931 National Governors' Conference there), Ronald Reagan, and numerous others. In the early 1900s, the Monon Railroad built a spur directly to the nearby West Baden Hotel grounds with daily passenger service to Chicago.  It was a booming resort into the late 1940s and then fell into decline.

In the 1990s, this classic hotel was refurbished. Initially, businessman Donald Trump was granted the original operating license, but the license was eventually awarded to a partnership of business interests from within Indiana including billionaire Bill Cook. The hotel is now restored to its famed charm and grandeur. From the distinct mosaic and marble flooring to a 109,000 square foot Conference  and Events Center, this hotel has something everyone can enjoy. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is recognized as one of the Historic Hotels of America by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Its sister Hotel, the West Baden Springs Hotel, is nearby and also enjoys a fascinating history.
